Sharm El Sheikh has one of those climates that sounds made up when you describe it. More than 300 days of sunshine a year. Rain so rare that when it does fall, people step outside to watch. A sea that stays warm enough for swimming even when Europe is shivering through January. But "sunny all year" doesn't mean the same thing every month. The rhythm of the seasons here is subtle — and knowing it makes a real difference to your trip.
The Three Seasons of Sharm
Warm days, cool evenings, and the best conditions for diving, snorkeling, and exploring. This is when Sharm truly shines. Book ahead — hotels fill up.
Intense midday heat, but mornings and late afternoons are glorious. Fewer crowds, lower prices, and water that feels like a bath. Early risers are rewarded.
Brief windows where seasons shift. Can bring the Khamaseen — a hot, dusty wind from the desert. Usually passes in a day or two. Don't overthink it.
Month by Month Breakdown
Best Time For...
Diving & Snorkeling: April through June and September through November. Warm water, excellent visibility, and comfortable air temperatures for the boat ride out. Marine life is abundant year-round, but these windows give you the best overall conditions.
Budget Travel: May, June, and September. The heat keeps some tourists away, which means hotels drop their rates significantly. You'll find deals at resorts that charge double during peak months. Just plan your outdoor activities for early morning and late afternoon.
Desert Adventures: October through April. Quad biking, camel rides, and Bedouin dinners are far more enjoyable when the midday sun isn't blazing. Evening desert trips work well even in summer — the temperature drops fast after sunset.
Avoiding Crowds: Mid-January through February and September through early October. These shoulder periods sit between peak holiday rushes, giving you more space on the beaches and shorter queues at attractions.
Sharm averages less than 5mm of rain per year. Most of that falls — briefly — in December or January. If you experience rain during your trip, consider yourself lucky. It's genuinely rare enough that locals treat it as a novelty. You don't need to pack a raincoat.
The honest truth about Sharm's weather is that there's no truly bad month — just different kinds of good. Even in August, when the temperature pushes toward 40°C, the sea is glorious and the mornings are beautiful. Even in January, when evenings require a jacket, the days are sunny and the water is swimmable. Pick your month based on your tolerance for heat and your preference for crowds, not out of fear that you'll arrive to bad weather. That almost never happens here.
